Progress...

Well, slowly but surely things are coming along.  The major plumbing work has been finished and now electrical work has begun.  Carl and his crew from Vintage Wood Works have began building the candy displays, floating ceiling clouds and the entryway to the back room.  We are working with Clear Channel on a billboard.  Watch for it 12/12 (hopefully) on the back corner lot of 26th and SE Belmont.

Cheers,
I'll keep you posted.

Yum, we can't get enough of these!!

We love the sweetness of the center that melts in your mouth along with the texture and crunch from the outside layer.  YUM!!  My kids can't get enough of these.  This was the treat we took with us last time we went to visit family in Canada.  I think now they are hooked too.

Brain Candy..

Here are some candy tidbits for you to ponder:
  • Sixty million chocolate Easter bunnies are produced each year.
  • It takes 6 minutes to produce a Marshmallow Peep.
  • The melting point of cocoa butter is just below the human body temperature — which is why it literally melts in your mouth. Or your hands!
  • It’s not just kids! Americans over 18 years of age consume 65 percent of the candy that’s produced each year.
  • What do you do? 74 percent of kids eat the ears on chocolate bunnies first.
  • Americans eat 25 pounds of candy, per person, per year. But the people of Denmark eat 36 pounds of candy per person, per year!
  • Great supplies of licorice were found in King Tut’s tomb.
  • The Aztecs of Mexico introduced Europe to chocolate in the 16th century.
  • Cotton candy is made out of 100% sugar.

WE SIGNED A LEASE TODAY!!!

Today we signed our three year lease with Urban Works and the owner of the Belmont Dairy building.  So we went in covered the windows and put up two beautiful signs.  We are off to a (slower than expected) GREAT start.  I can't begin to tell you how excited we are about breaking ground on our build-out.  YEAH!!  ONE STEP CLOSER!

Wednesday we will meet with the architect and general contractor.  Then we start??

Did you start Saturday mornings with the Smurfs or Bugs Bunny & friends? Did you wish you were Superman? Did you collect Star Wars figures by the dozens? Did you open your own Lemonade Stand? If you answered yes to any of these (and even if you didn't) you will love reading Kim & Jason! Have a fun trip back to childhood.

It all starts with an idea...

After months and months of thinking, plotting and scheming, my husband, children and I decided that a Soda Pop & Candy Shop would be a great family adventure.  We have found a great location in a trendy foodie/boutique district.  We are surrounded by many restaurants, bars, a retro clothing store, hair salon, gift shops and more.

We are excited to offer retro hard-to-find candies, bulk candy, small batch and obscure sodas, as well as an old fashioned sit-down soda counter.  Our place will be cozy, with plenty of options for seating.  Counter stools, leather couches and bar-top window seats, we will have a spot for every comfort level.  Doing our part to "KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD" we will have a shrine for one of Portland's famous icons.

We will keep you posted on all of our progress.

Thanks for reading!!
